There are walking trails, horseback riding, golf courses, a municipal zoo, and the famous Peterborough Lift Locks, to mention some of the nearby attractions. (In the Visitor Center at the Lift Locks, there are working models to demonstrate this Canadian engineering marvel). Cruises are available through the Lift Locks, and also on several of the nearby lakes. Visit the reconstructed Lang Pioneer Heritage Village and see how the early settlers lived. Numerous craft stores and antique stores dot the area, for unique souvenirs.

An hour's drive east will take you to the Petroglyphs, sacred carvings made over a span of hundreds of years by First Nations people, representing their spiritual journeys. You can visit the Warsaw Caves, remains of a vast underground river system left at the time of the glacial melt, 12,000 years ago. To the west is Toronto, the largest city in Canada. The easy way of sightseeing is to leave the car at the GO commuter train, and use the excellent Metro Transit System (subway, bus, and streetcar) to travel around the city.
